Open Toolbox: WordPress Custom Fields

opentoolboxWe are excited to announce our new video blog: Main Street’s Open Toolbox. This video series will discuss tools and techniques for building better web sites. We will also include interviews with industry players and developers.

To kick off the series, we start with our own WordPress guru, Adam White, as he discusses one of WordPress’ most under-appreciated features: custom fields. If you’ve heard people complain that WP is not a “real” CMS, they probably don’t have a clue how custom fields can expand the functionality of your site.

Breaking News: iThemes Goes to GPL License

ithemesWe’ve been old friends with the iThemes guys for years. Besides the friendship, they also build great premium WordPress themes and we partner with them to provide customization and support for those themes.

A couple weeks ago iThemes announced that they are changing their licensing model from the traditional copyrighted version to the GPL license. What does that mean for developers? The themes are still not free, but the multi-use licenses are gone. Once you buy a theme you can re-use it anywhere and any way you choose.
